Just a quick introduction! My name is Loni Weller. I am from Northeastern Pennsylvania, having grown up in West Pittston and attended Wyoming Seminary for high school.
I cannot remember a time when I was not reading. I fondly remember story hours and summer programs as a child at my local library, as well as the very kind librarians who worked there. My favorite childhood book, Millions of Cats by Wanda Gág, still sits on my nightstand.
I received my Bachelor's Degree in Media Studies from Judson University in Elgin, IL. After a few internships at radio stations and record labels, I realized that as much as I loved the music industry, this field was not going to pan out well as an actual career. However, I did gain extremely useful experience in Promotions and Public Relations, as well as a comfort level with continually changing technology. These experiences have been a significant influence in how I established my current library program.
Upon returning to Pennsylvania, I obtained my Master's Degree in Library Science at Kutztown University. With a passion for literature and a desire to teach and work with young adults, becoming a school librarian was the natural path for me to follow.
Moravian Academy Middle School
I am currently the Director of Media Services at Moravian Academy Middle School in Bethlehem, PA. About 200 students attend my middle school, ranging from 6th-8th grades. I act as librarian, tech support, in-house EasyBib expert, All-School Curriculum Committee Member, Halloween Dance co-chair, Ski Club chaperon, and Yearbook Adviser. When I share strategies for not losing your mind while being pulled in too many different directions, I am speaking from experience. However, I absolutely love my job, the people I work with, and the students that I teach. I even love the state of chaos that I feel I live in during the school year. My least favorite time in the library is when it is quiet!
Tech cat, Cupcake
Besides being a librarian, which we all know is extremely time consuming, I love traveling, hiking, yoga, and a good cup of coffee. I am also a little obsessed with hockey. Let's Go, Pens!
Franny and Zooey, On the Road, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower have joined my childhood favorites on my bookshelf. Some of the young adult books I have enjoyed recently are My Family for the War by Anne C. Voorhoeve, Notes from an Accidental Band Geek by Erin Dionne, The Declaration trilogy by Gemma Malley, and Maggot Moon by Sally Gardner.
